Art meets architecture
CHIHARU SHIOTA'S THE HOME WITHIN
13 October
PAST EVENT
MTALK
Celebrated Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota explores the memory of objects and places in her dense sculptural installations.
Shiota has often addressed the subject of home and mobility by building replicas of archetypal houses in evocative materials, such as stacks of windows or webs of yarn, and using found objects including keys, shoes and suitcases. Chiharu Shiota has created a monumental yet fragile home, which will travel to key locations in Melbourne for the duration of the Festival.
Join Larissa Hjorth (artist and digital ethnographer in the School of Media & Communication, RMIT University), Anaïs Lellouche (Curator of The Home Within and Curatorial director, Anna Schwartz Gallery) and Jan van Schaik (Co-director MvS Architect and researcher RMIT University) unpack Chiharu Shiota’s work and the timely subjects of home and mobility in art and architecture.
