Inside the Ethereal Eye

14—23 October

PAST EVENT

Cutting-edge technology offers you the chance to immerse yourself virtually in two cultural and architectural treasures of Melbourne designed by Walter Burley and Marion Mahony Griffin.

Inspired by Jonathan Mills' musical homage to the Griffins, Ethereal Eye, this ground-breaking new creation—a collaboration between the University of Melbourne's Transformative Technologies Research Unit and two of the world's leading figures in new media art Sarah Kenderdine and Jeffrey Shaw—employs a six-metre wide ultra-high-resolution projection dome as the canvas for an exploration of the famous Newman College Dining Hall and the ceiling of the iconic Capitol Theatre.

You're invited to recline beneath this unfolding spectacle within the Atrium of the Faculty of Arts' magnificent new Arts West building, and watch history come to life, with motion capture technologies by Deakin Motion.Lab and dancers Leigh Warren and Delia Silvan tracing the effects of bodies in built spaces. Made possible by eye-popping audio-visual technologies and keen collaboration between artists, performers, students, academics and industry experts, the work will linger long after the music stops.

Conceived and directed by Sarah Kenderdine and Jeffrey Shaw for UNSW’s DomeLab in collaboration with the Transformative Technologies Research Unit, Faculty of Arts, University of Melbourne.
