CYBORG PIANIST

Pianist ZUBIN KANGA
Live electronics BENJAMIN CAREY

Fresh from his acclaimed 2015 Dark Twin tour, Zubin Kanga returns in a program of newly commissioned works by some of the hottest composers from Australia and Europe. 3D motion sensors shape the sounds of Patrick Nunn’s Boulez-meets-The-Matrix Morphosis.

Elsewhere you’ll find mutant pianists, drowning pianos, old hand-transplant horror films and aerial drones... this is a piano recital for the post-human age.

TUE 11 OCTOBER 6PM

JOHN CAGE’S SONATAS & INTERLUDES

Pianist ZUBIN KANGA
Sonatas & Interludes is contemporary genius and iconoclast John Cage’s puckish percussive masterwork.

Screws, rubber, plastic and other materials invade the piano to transform it into a one-man orchestra of kaleidoscopic colours, full of gongs, bells and drums. Combining Indian philosophy and aesthetics, the sounds of Indonesian gamelan and the spirit of American post-war experimental music, it is both deep meditation and cosmic dance.
